As an indie author who also self-publishes, I’m always looking for ways to help my books stand out. Recently, I’ve taken some time to enhance my Amazon Book Listings with KDP’s A+ Content Manager. While it took some time to set everything up, I’m happy with the results.
Note for fellow indies who publish through KDP: you can find the A+ Content under the Marketing tab. You are limited to the given modules, but with a little trial and error, it’s easy to add some flair to your standard book listings. Pro tip: the blocks will move for the desktop and mobile listings, so check the previews for both.
The Insistence of Memory
For my first novel, I wanted to highlight that it’s also available as an audiobook. So, I created a banner image that included the audiobook cover and lists the formats available (Kindle, paperback, audiobook).
An author picture beside a book blurb and bio adds visual interest. I wish I could make the list of my other books clickable, but that wasn’t an option. Finally, I added quotes from a few editorial reviews, with another picture. See the full listing here: The Insistence of Memory
To the Left of Death
My second standalone novel does not have an audiobook to promote, so I focused on an eye-catching banner that highlights the cover art. (Which I drew in Procreate on my iPad.)
The rest of the layout uses the same A+ Content modules for my author photo, bio, book blurb, other books, and editorial reviews. I like how the colorful banner balances with the picture of the physical books beside the review quotes. See the full listing here: To the Left of Death
The Psychic Traveler Society
For my YA trilogy, I wanted to highlight all three books and publish the same content on each of their listings. I created a banner with the emblems from each book, then used the same module as my other listings for the book and author content.
Below that, I added two more modules. One to show the listings for each book in the trilogy and another to give a few stats at a glance, including genre and age range information. See the full listings for each of these books: Healers and Thieves, Family and Foes, Elders and Aliens
Audrey & Esther Geekify Greenville
My wacky choose-your-path book has a similar listing as my standalone novels. I again used elements of the cover art to create a banner and add visual interest lower on the page. I also included my current headshot, bio, book blurb, etc.
Instead of adding editorial reviews, I used a similar module to add some details about what to expect in a choose-your-ending book. Or what I call “twist your fiction,” as it includes a blend of sci-fi, fantasy, and rom-com tropes. See the full listing here: Audrey & Esther Geekify Greenville
The only book listing I haven’t enhanced yet is the collection of stories from my Freely Written podcast. I’ll likely make a similar layout using a banner that highlights the podcast, which you can find wherever you listen to podcasts. Going forward, I plan to use A+ Content for all of my book listings. It’s a small touch that may entice new readers to give my books a try.
