My New Podcast: Freely Written

Freely Written, my new podcast

Say hello to my new podcast! Yes, I’ve officially joined the word of podcasting.

Freely Written will feature weekly episodes where I share short stories that were inspired by writing prompts and written with no planning and very little editing.

You can find Freely written on your favorite podcast app or at this link: Freely Written. If it isn’t on your favorite app yet, give it some time. Some directories take longer than others to accept new submissions.

I began Freely Written with two goals in mind:

  1. To reach a wider audience
  2. To practice my narration skills before recording audiobooks of my novels

It’s a side project, but one that I expect will be a lot of fun. To begin, I’m using some of the free-written stories I’ve previously published on my Patreon page, and I would love to get ideas from listeners for future writing prompts.

Behind the Scenes of a New Podcast

Learning to record and edit in GarageBand has already been an interesting experience! I’ve tried playing with various EQ settings and noise gates, but the best sound I’ve gotten so far is by simply hitting in record (with auto-levels).

My “recording studio” is a space I’ve cleared in my closet, and that works well to cut down on echo and outside noise. I’m using a simple USB microphone with a pop filter, which seems to be okay for my needs. I’m tempted to upgrade (especially before attempting to record audiobooks), but I’m going to spend some time working with what I have first.

While I’m not doing anything fancy with my podcast, I did add a little piano fill at the beginning and end of each episode. Incidentally, those piano clips are from an old file of me practicing 12-bar blues licks. It seemed appropriate to use improvised music for a show that features free-written stories!

Check out Freely Written whenever you want a quick story break and let me know what you think!

Surprise New Book!

Surprise new book: Audrey & Esther Geekify Greenville

We need all the fun we can find during this pandemic. For me, that’s meant setting aside my other projects to write a fun and silly, surprise new book!

Audrey & Esther Geekify Greenville is now in the hands of the publisher and should be available for sale in the next day or two. (Yay!) I’ll update here and on social media as soon as it’s ready.

Update: The book is available now!!! Buy it here: Audrey & Esther Geekify Greenville

Now, this new book isn’t a novel. Instead, it’s what I’m calling a Twist Your Fiction Storybook.

What does that mean? Each story section gives you options for where to go next. Your picks change the storyline and the genre, meaning you could get a story with sci-fi, fantasy, or rom-com touches… or more likely, a mix of all three!

Want a new story? With 3 genres and 22 possible endings, you can start over, and over, (and over) again! You may even find a time loop. 😁

Pulling all these story parts together has been a crazy challenge! (So many places to go!) The stories themselves are pretty silly, which made writing this even more fun.

The book kicks off with two friends, Audrey and Esther, starting their weekend at a small, pop-culture con called Geekify Greenville. Audrey is selling her knit and crochet crafts. Esther is working as a con volunteer. You get to decide where the story goes from there.

This project has been on my back burner for nearly two years, and I have a lot of ideas that didn’t make it into this book. Which means, I’d love to send Audrey and Esther on even more adventures. After I finish Book 3 of The Psychic Traveler Society, of course!

I’m really excited to share this surprise new book with you. I hope you’ll be excited to read it, too!

Author Cards and PTS Stickers

Author cards and PTS stickers

Family and Foes is available now!! While I’m excited to share this 2nd book in The Psychic Traveler Society series, I won’t be celebrating its release with a book signing. Instead, I’m offering a new feature: signed author cards!

You can now get a free, personalized author card to tape inside your paperback book or use as a one-of-a-kind bookmark!

Simply post a picture of yourself with your copy of Family and Foes on Facebook, Instagram, or Twitter with the hashtag #PTSAuthorCards, and tag me in it. (Find all my social media links here.)

I’ll PM you for your mailing address and send you a handwritten thank you card and a personalized author card. I’ll also send you a PTS sticker, while supplies last.

The offer is good for both paperback and Kindle editions. For the Kindle edition, use a picture of the Family and Foes cover page or title page on your device.

Family and Foes is the 2nd book in the series. If you include the 1st book, Healers and Thieves, in your picture, I’ll send author cards for both books!

Still need to order? Buy Family and Foes here and Healers and Thieves here.

Don’t worry, your mailing address will be used for this offer only. It will not be shared or used for other promotional mailings.

I look forward to seeing you at future signings, once it’s safe for public events. Until then, post your picture to get a free, personalized author card.

Thank you for your support! And, happy reading!
